It is recommended that the RN participant has at least six months of clinical nursing experience in an emergency care setting. Other healthcare professionals such as LPNs, EMTs and RTs may audit the program as space allows. (Fees same for auditing.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The TNCC may be officially attended by registered nurses (RN's). Other health care providers may attend the course as observers. In order to maximize success in the TNCC (Provider), it is recommended that the participant have at least six months of clinical nursing experience in an emergency care setting. It is assumed that the course participant possesses generic nursing knowledge, has an understanding of emergency care terminology, and has familiarity with standard emergency equipment.

The Trauma Nurse Core Course is a two day program designed to provide the learner with core trauma knowledge as well as psychomotor skill experience. Knowledge and skills gained in this course will enable the registered nurse to more rapidly accurately assess relevant signs and symptoms as well as plan interventions. Certification is for 4 years.

Four to six weeks prior to the course, the participant will need to read and study the materials in the Textbook of Trauma Nurse Core Course.

EVALUATION, VERIFICATION AND CONTACT HOURS

ENA will issue verification upon meeting the criteria noted above. The verification will expire four years from the last day of the month in which the card was issued.

Contact hours are awarded based on the hours attended, regardless of evaluation.

Other healthcare providers working in the emergency care setting may attend the course and receive contact hours, but are not eligible for verification.

OBJECTIVES

Following this program, the participants can be expected to:
   1.Discuss the nursing assessment of patients with multiple traumas.
   2.Based on the assessment data, recall appropriate nursing diagnosis associated with patients who have sustained injury.
   3.Plan and demonstrate appropriate interventions for a patient who has sustained an injury.

CNE

Continuing Education credit will be provided through the Emergency Nurses Association for 14.92 contact hours.
