Program overview

This program is designed to improve the strategies for secondary stroke prevention, stroke assessment, acute stroke intervention and regional stroke care for, but not limited to, updates on The University of Kansas Health System Care Collaborative.

Objectives

  • Describe the impact of the collaborative on stroke patient outcomes.
  • Summarize the role of protocols, data abstraction and feedback and education on patient outcomes within the collaborative.
  • Identify and evaluate a patient’s personal secondary stroke risk factors.
  • Be familiar with recommended medications for risk factor management.
  • Examine the goals and differences in hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke.
  • Identify patients with low NIHSS who would benefit from lytic therapy.
  • Identify the most common stroke syndromes and goals of care in the emergent setting.
  • Examine acute stroke imaging techniques.
  • Identify different devices used in acute stroke intervention.
  • Examine the role of EMS in identifying the stroke patient and prenotification.
  • Describe the different tools that EMS can use to identify LVO.

    TARGET AUDIENCE

    Physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other and other interested healthcare professionals.
