Program overview

This program is designed to improve the care of cardiovascular patients including, but not limited to, advanced heart failure, atrial fibrillation management, preoperative and perioperative CV care, antithrombotic treatment for AFibrillation, heart intervention and cardiac pacing.

Objectives

  • Improve knowledge and comprehension of the evaluation and treatment of Advanced Heart failure.
  • Examine recent advances in the treatment of advanced heart failure.
  • Determine when to refer the heart failure patient to the Advanced Heart Failure Team.
  • Examine recent advances in the management of atrial fibrillation.
  • Identify when to refer a patient with AFib to cardiac electrophysiologist.
  • Examine advances in heart failure treatment for the patient with end stage CHF.
  • Review how to evaluate a cardiac patient for noncardiac surgery.
  • Demonstrate how to care for the cardiac patient peri and post operatively when undergoing noncardiac surgery.
  • Recognize what the Kansas HealthCare Collaborative has to offer to physicians and patients in western Kansas.
  • Identify what the primary care clinician needs to know about cardiac pacing devices and remote cardiac monitoring.
  • Review the latest advances in Structural Heart Treatments, including TAVR, PFO closure, Mitral Valve Repair, and Left Atrial Appendage Closure.
  • Examine the nuances of prescribing and pharmacology anticoagulation therapy in the era of new oral anticoagulant drugs.
  • Review and be exposed to treatment options for complex coronary artery disease.
