  • Cardiovascular Emergencies Cerebrovascular Emergencies
  • Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Emergencies
  • Effective communication within a resuscitation team and recognition of the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
  • High Quality CPR
  • Post-Cardiac Arrest Care
  • Respiratory and Metabolic EmergenciesThe goal of the ACLS EP Course is to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory and other (eg, metabolic, toxicologic) emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and decision-making strategies. Through instruction and active participation in case-based scenarios, learners enhance their skills in the differential diagnosis and treatment of prearrest, arrest and postarrest patients.

ACLS EP has been updated to reflect science from the following:
  • 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC
  • 2013 American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF)/AHA Guidelines for the Management of ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction
  • 2012 ACCF/AHA Focused Update of the Guideline for the Management of Patients With Unstable Angina/Non–ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction

    GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Current BLS Provider/ACLS Provider Card - please fax a copy of your card to 785-623-5108
  • Access the ACLS EP student website (www.heart.org/eccstudent).
  • When you registered, you will be provided a key to access the ACLS Provider exam online.

Because the ACLS EP Course accomplishes your ACLS renewal and focuses on topics and cases for experienced providers, passing the ACLS Provider exam online before the course is a part of your precourse requirement. With the key below, you will have 2 attempts to pass the exam. If you fail both versions of the ACLS Provider exam, you will need to contact HaysMed Education to obtain a new key.

Upon successful completion of the ACLS EP Course, the learner will receive an ACLS EP card, which is valid for 2 years. The card signifies that the cardholder has successfully completed the core requirements of ACLS as well as demonstrated the ability to apply the systematic approach in treating complex cardiovascular emergencies.

HOW TO GET READY FOR THE COURSE

  • The ACLS EP Course is designed to teach and test the lifesaving skills required of a team leader in an in-hospital, ED, or out-of-hospital setting. Because this course covers extensive material in a short time, you will need to prepare for the course beforehand.

  • Review and understand the information in your ACLS EP Manual.
  • The resuscitation scenarios require that you use current BLS and ACLS skills and knowledge.
  • You will be tested on your 1-rescuer adult CPR and AED skills, bag-mask ventilation skills (OPA and NPA included), and Megacode skills at the beginning of the ACLS EP Course.
  • Complete the ACLS Provider exam on the ACLS EP Student Website (www.heart.org/eccstudent). Use the code near the front of your ACLS EP Manual to access the ACLS EP Student Website.
