Joint providership with HaysMed and The University of Kansas Medical Center Continuing Education and Professional Development and Area Health Education Center West

Program overview

This program is designed to improve the strategies for secondary stroke prevention, stroke care and treatment, treatment for posterior and anterior stroke, stroke in children, pregnancy and drug abuse populations and collaborative update on stroke and sepsis.

Objectives

  • Explore the historical treatments of stroke.
  • Summarize where the future of stroke care is headed.
  • Assess the emergency evaluation of stroke.
  • Identify how imaging modality is selected for stroke.
  • Summarize stroke care in children.
  • Explore stroke care in pregnancy and drug abuse populations.
  • Identify rural best practices in clinical protocol adoption.
  • Compare stroke, STEMI and sepsis metrics with peer organizations for performance improvement benchmarking.
  • Identify how implantation of the WATCHMAN device impacts stroke prevention.
  • Summarize WATCHMAN device characteristics and method of implantation.
  • Review the indications and contraindications of the implantation of the WATCHMAN device.
  • Safely weigh risk vs. benefit of watchman device implant.
  • Review the referral process for patient evaluation for WATCHMAN implant.
